Introducing “Wendy the Waste Truck AI,” a digital embodiment of HDS’s beloved mascot, designed to deliver personalized, accurate, and efficient customer support.

Addressing a Growing Need

Homewood Disposal Service provides waste management solutions to hundreds of thousands of residents and businesses across nearly 100 towns and communities in two states. They faced a significant challenge: their website, although rich with over 500 pages of content detailing various services, resources, and schedules, provided an opportunity to deliver a more streamlined approach for users seeking specific information. The solution needed to be more than just a basic chatbot; it had to be an intuitive, responsive tool that could navigate a vast dataset and provide meaningful, context-aware answers.

The Challenge of AI Implementation

While countless AI-powered chatbot solutions have popped up this year, the real test lies in effective implementation. Successful deployment hinges on having the correct dataset, accurately understanding user intent, and generating high-quality, nuanced responses. We understood that merely incorporating the latest technology wasn’t enough; we needed to ensure that the user’s experience was exceptional.

Building Wendy the Waste Truck AI

To meet these demands, Cultivate crafted a tailored application that regularly scans the Homewood Disposal website and other HDS sources for new and updated information. Leveraging the latest GPT models from OpenAI, we built a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system. This advanced approach enhances text generation by retrieving relevant information from the prepared dataset before generating a response, ensuring that answers are precise, detailed, and contextually relevant.

User-Centric Design

Understanding the user’s intent is crucial. Wendy AI monitors for numerous topics that guide conversations,  identifies user mood and satisfaction levels, and even injects a bit of humor into interactions. Users are seamlessly directed to the most relevant web pages and forms, ensuring thorough and accurate answers to their queries.

Additionally, Cultivate developed a web portal for the HDS team, allowing them to view chat histories, filter and sort by topic, mood, and more. This feature provides valuable insights into customer interactions and helps improve overall service quality.
