There’s a certain weight to representing a company like Skender online. For 70 years, they’ve built structures that outlast economic cycles and shifting trends and earned a reputation for bringing uncommon humanity to the precision and complexity of construction. Translating that legacy into a website—an experience as considerate, collaborative, and exacting as the way Skender works—meant there was no room for half measures.
Over the past year, Cultivate partnered with the Skender team to craft a digital home worthy of that trust. The result is not a cosmetic refresh but a deeply considered platform, world-class in both form and function, that reflects Skender’s commitment to efficiency, innovation, and partnership.
Building a Site Worthy of Skender’s Reputation
From the outset, we knew this site had to do more than look great, it needed to carry the weight of a brand that has spent the better part of a century building across industries: office, healthcare, multifamily, mission critical, and more. It had to communicate the confidence of a proven leader, the precision of a trusted partner, and the humanity of a people-first culture.
Through a series of deep discovery workshops with Skender’s marketing and people & culture teams we defined core goals that shaped every decision:
Showcase the breadth of Skender’s markets and services without overwhelming visitors.
Create intuitive paths tailored to clients, collaborators, and career seekers.
Immerse visitors in the stories, culture, and values that make Skender an award-winning workplace.
From user story development to content mapping, we built a site plan that merged robust information architecture with a clean, modern aesthetic—balancing functional clarity with brand storytelling.
A Digital Experience Rooted in Partnership
The new skender.com is built to guide visitors with ease, offering streamlined navigation that makes it simple to explore Skender’s expertise from preconstruction to final delivery. Rich project portfolios showcase the scale, diversity, and craftsmanship behind their work, while a vibrant culture and careers hub brings their people, values, and workplace recognition to the forefront. Throughout the site, dynamic storytelling woven into case studies, team bios, and community impact features offers a deeper, more human look at the partnerships and projects that define Skender.
The experience is elevated by subtle, purposeful animations and micro-interactions; navigation that locks, builds, and scrolls side-to-side in surprising yet intuitive ways. Throughout, custom photography we captured across Skender’s offices and jobsites brings authenticity and energy, keeping real people and real work at the center of the story.
A Quiet Brand Refresh
The project also gave us an opportunity to evolve Skender’s visual identity. Working collaboratively with their in-house team, we introduced a refreshed brand color palette, including distinctive new greens and a modernized typographic system, that gives Skender greater flexibility and clarity across digital and print expressions. The Skender Red remains, but it’s now used more intentionally as an accent, with white, gray, and black creating breathing room and balance. Typography is cleaner, more legible, and more versatile. Icons are simplified and refined. The result is a brand system that feels confident yet more approachable, energetic without losing elegance, and ready to support Skender’s evolving design needs.
Engineering for Performance and Ease
Behind the scenes, the site runs on a custom WordPress build with a finely tuned, bespoke front end. Using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and custom post types, we created an intuitive, modular content management experience—taking as much care in the backend as we do in the front-end. The system allows the Skender team to build rich, media-driven pages without touching code or relying on cumbersome visual composer tools. Every component is responsive, tested, and optimized for speed, accessibility, and PageSpeed performance.
We also executed a massive content migration: more than 150 project pages and nearly 800 news articles were rebuilt and organized into a “newsroom” experience that reads more like a magazine than a blog. The new system supports everything from press releases to thought leadership to curated third-party features, with search that organizes results across multiple taxonomies.
Rising to the Challenge
Skender’s team brought high expectations and an openness to true collaboration. They were responsive, thoughtful, and engaged at every step—challenging us to deliver something best-in-class while giving the time and insight needed to make it happen. That shared commitment shaped every detail, from the smallest UI nuance to the largest architectural choice.
When the site launched, we celebrated together with a toast—a moment that felt less like the end of a project and more like the unveiling of a shared accomplishment, built on trust, craft, and a clear vision for the future.
The Outcome
The result is a digital presence that feels unmistakably Skender: confident, collaborative, high-performing, and people-first. It’s a platform designed to inspire trust, spark connection, and support growth for years to come.
